Layers Upon Layers

Forget the idea that you should always take one thing off before leaving the house. For Autumn/Winter 2026, more is definitely more when it comes to layering. Designers embraced the art of piling pieces together, proving that dressing for colder weather can be both practical and incredibly stylish. This season, layering becomes a way to experiment with texture, proportion and unexpected combinations.

Miuccia Prada’s approach to day-to-night dressing became one of the standout styling ideas in Milan, highlighting how the way pieces are combined can completely transform an outfit. This season, layering is also becoming easier to achieve, with pre-layered jackets, tops and skirts designed to create a stacked look with minimal effort.

At Missoni, Alberto Caliri layered coats, bombers, cardigans and blazers, finishing the looks with scarves and shawls. At Marni, Meryll Rogge played with colour, pattern and texture, creating unexpected combinations that felt eclectic yet considered. Meanwhile, at Rabanne, Julien Dossena layered polo knits, blouses, camisoles, tea dresses, shearling bombers and colourful hosiery, proving that dressing for warmth doesn’t have to mean sacrificing style.

The message for AW26 is clear: don’t be afraid to pile it on. Mix textures, play with proportions and let unexpected pieces work together. This season, the most interesting outfits might just be the ones with one more layer.
